Buckling Restrained Braces (BRB / UBB / SUB)

Buckling-Restrained Braces, also known as BRB, UBB, and SUBs, are seismic devices composed of a primary axially yielding core and axial restraint mechanism. The internal forces of the components are borne by the core material located at the support center. The core material undergoes yielding energy dissipation under axial loads (tensile and compressive forces). The peripheral buckling restraint mechanism (steel pipe or steel-reinforced concrete) restricts the central core material from undergoing bending, preventing buckling of the core material before compressive yielding occurs.

ACTS-SDT offers Fluid Viscous Damper (FVD), leads by international seismic expert Prof. Tony Yang, will simply and efficiently raise structural damping 20%~25% versus 1%~3% for a typical un-damped design. Our goal is to meet all technical performance applications outlined by the Structural Specification and provide a damper design with long service life.

BRB can also serve as a cost-effective alternative to traditional steel systems.

The company is seeing the need for more economical solutions providing adequate resistance for new structures. With those needs in mind, we are ensuring that both new construction projects and retrofitting of existing buildings are designed and constructed to protect buildings with any seismic risk.
